Raspberry Pi utility configuration




This part explains how to configure and setup utilities the Raspberry Pi for a easy use in the future.

To have a proper configured OS, you have to go trough the following steps:
  -   Network setup
  -   SSH server setup
  -   VNC server setup
  -   X-server setup

Please follow the below steps:

     

1.   Network setup



    1.1.   On the top-right corner of the desktop, right-click on Network icon, then click on "Wireless & Wired Network Settings"

    1.2.   The below window appears.

Select ETH0 from Interfaces drop-down lisn and set the desired IP address, gateway, and DNS server.
Press "Apply" and "Close".



     

2.   Enable SSH and VNC servers




Those servers will help to easy access of device once all configuration is done.

    2.1.   On Applications Menu, go to Preferences, then Raspberry Pi Configuration.
The below window shows:

    2.2.   Go to Interfaces tab and enable the SSH and VNC servers, then click "OK".



     

3.   Setup xscreensaver




This operation will avoid the device to go on sleep mode.

    3.1.   Open a terminal and run the following command to install it:

$ sudo apt-get install xscreensaver

When promted, press "Y" and "Enter".

When the installation is done, close the terminal.     3.2.   Open a terminal and run the following command to install it:

$ sudo apt-get install xscreensaver

When promted, press "Y" and "Enter".

When the installation is done, close the terminal.

    3.3.   On Applications Menu, go to Preferences, then Screensaver.
The below window shows:

    3.4.   Reboot the device.



     

4.   Testing the configuration




    4.1.   Test the network configuration.

    4.1.1.   On computer, open a CMD terminal and run the below command:

ping xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx

where xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx is the IP address of Raspberry Py.

The below replies should apppear:

    4.2.   Test the SSH server.

    4.2.1.   On computer, open PUTTY and insert the Raspberry Pi IP address, then click "Open".

    4.2.2.   On the new opened window, type the password and press "Enter".
The connection is established.

    4.3.   Test the VNC server.

    4.3.1.   On computer, open VNC Viewer and insert the Raspberry Pi IP address, then press "Enter".

    4.3.2.   On the pop-up window, insert the credentials and press "OK".

    4.3.3.   You are connected to the desktop of Raspberry Pi.
